Frequently Asked Questions
GENERAL
What is Rosin?
Rosin comes in a variety of forms, such as shatters, waxes and all different types of viscosities. The technology behind rosin, which is made from bubble hash, kief, trim or flower during an extraction process combining heat and pressure, ensures that the cannabis terpenes and cannabinoids are preserved. As a result, rosin holds a massive benefit in that consumers can know exactly what they are putting in their body following the extraction process. Because of this, making your own cannabis oil using the rosin technique is the best way to know what you are putting in your body and therefore, allows users to consume safely, all without compromising quality or altering the chemical make-up of the end product.
ROSIN PRESS QUESTIONS
How safe are your rosin presses?
Solventless extraction is one of the safest methods of extraction in the industry and falls under the umbrella of “non-volatile extraction”, meaning no butane, ethanol or CO2 is required.
How much power do your rosin presses use?
Our electric rosin presses require a minimal amount of power and electricity. We recommend 110V when operating one of our presses in the U.S. All our rosin presses in Europe come with 220V plugs. A Step Up/ Step Down transformer can be used to assist with the voltage that you require.
Do you have any portable rosin presses available?
Rosin Tech Products offers 10 different models of rosin presses, each designed with a distinct form of extraction in mind, including the portable Rosin Tech Go 2™. If you’d like to speak in-depth about which rosin press would be the best fit for your specific situation, please contact one of our solventless experts by email at sales@rosintechproducts.com or by phone at 888-266-2147. We’ll be happy to help you find the perfect press for your unique extraction needs.
What kind of service or maintenance do your rosin presses require?
Our home use rosin presses require minimal service and maintenance. We do recommend occasionally cleaning your plates while they are still warm with 99% isopropyl alcohol (or the highest percentage isopropyl alcohol you can get). Email at support@rosintechproducts.com for technical questions or speak with a representative of our customer support team by phone at 888-266-2147 opt. 1.
Where can I find the user manual for my rosin press model online?
While all of our rosin presses and PollenMaster dry sift tumblers include user manuals, you can find digital versions online at our Rosin Tech Products Product Manuals Center.
What material is used in the manufacturing of Rosin Tech Products’ heat plates?
All of our heat plates are crafted from high quality aluminum for efficient heating and quick cooling. The Daxtractor comes with nickel coated aluminum plates.
Are Rosin Tech Products rosin presses UL listed?
While all of our commercial units are UL-compliant and built to meet the exacting UL standards, we are still in the process of getting our commercial rosin presses UL listed.
Why should I use a pre-press mold?
We’ve found that using a pre-press mold is an effective way to increase your yield. The use of a pre-press mold can also prevent space from forming within the filter bags. Since excess space can trap oil, you want to do everything you can to prevent these spaces from forming. We highly recommend using pre-press molds when pressing ice water hash (a.k.a. bubble hash), dry-sift, shake and trim.
How do you replace a fuse?
All home use presses come with a spare fuse. Remove the power plug from its insert in the press. That area where you insert the plug can be removed from the press and there lives a replacement fuse.
Can you use a temp gun on the plates?
Using an infrared heat gun will not give you accurate temperature readings as aluminum is a reflective surface.
My rosin press has lost pressure. How do I fix it?
Carefully tighten the Hydraulic Knob until snug. Be careful not to over tighten it. If you have any further questions please contact support@rosintechproducts.com or speak with a representative of our customer support team by phone at 888-266-2147 opt. 1.
My press is leaking oil. What should I do?
If it appears that oil is leaking from your rosin press, close your release value by turning it clockwise. Please contact our customer tech support at support@rosintechproducts.com or call us at 888-266-2147 opt. 2 so we can troubleshoot the problem.
Should my release valve be closed when not in use?
Please refrain from removing the hydraulic release valve on any press or hand pump as this will cause hydraulic oil to release from the press or hand pump. Additionally, pumping a hydraulic press or hand pump while the knob is not tight may cause oil to dispense from the release valve. Release valve should only be loosened when releasing pressure from your press.
If you're having any technical questions or issues with your press, please contact our customer service team at support@rosintechproducts.com or call us at 888-266-2147 so we can troubleshoot the problem.
What are the compressed air requirements for Rosin Tech Products’ pneumatic rosin presses and pneumatic attachment options?
We recommend a 150 psi air compressor for our commercial rosin presses. Most standard air compressors available from your local hardware store should do the trick.
Will my 110V rosin press work in Europe with a wall converter?
If you currently have a 110V rosin press model in a location where 220V is the standard, a step down transformer is required. Otherwise, we offer 220V rosin presses through our European site (rosintechproducts.eu) that ship from our fulfilment center in Prague.
What is your Rosin Press Return & Warranty Policy?
No returns on any sales are permitted, all presses come with a 1-year warranty which begins upon product delivery. For more information please visit our (Warranty Page).
Rosin Bags & Extraction Accessories Questions
What are your rosin bags made from?
Rosin Tech Products rosin bags are created from food grade polyester.
How much material can fit into Rosin Tech Products rosin bags?
Rosin bag capacity depends on which filter bag you are using and the type of material for which you’re using it. We currently offer 4 different sizes of filter bags, each with their own capacity:
Small Bag (1.25” x 3.25”) – holds up to 3.5 grams (flower)
Medium Bag (2” x 3.5”) – holds up to 7 grams (flower)
Large Bag (1.75” x 5”) – holds up to 14 grams (flower)
Large Bag (3” x 6”) - hold up to 28 grams (flower)
Large Bag (1.75” x 5”) – holds up to 14 grams (flower)
Large Bag (3” x 6”) - hold up to 28 grams (flower)
Extra Large Bag (1.75” x 8”) – holds up to 28 grams (flower)
Extra Large Bag (2” x 8”) - holds up to 34 grams (flower)
Extra Large Bag (2” x 8”) - holds up to 34 grams (flower)
When working with finer material such as dry sift or bubble hash, you can fit 3 – 4 more grams in the large and extra-large bags.
What micron size filter bag should I use?
They vary according to the material being used,
25-45 Kief, Bubble Hash
73,90,120,160,190,220 user preference flower
The lower the micron # is equal to more filtration.
Do I have to use a rosin bag when pressing rosin?
When working with loose material and larger quantities, we always recommend using a filter bag. The filter bag provides a much-needed barrier between your plant material and rosin.
How do you prevent blowouts?
Blowouts occur more frequently when working with Bubble Has or Kief. Bag failure occurs when pressure is applied rapidly. Please be sure to gradually apply pressure and don't overstuff your Filter Bags.
How can I increase my yield?
Pressing is extremely strain dependent and results can vary. When pressing flower we see averages of 10-30% yields. Some techniques that we have found that increase yield include:
- Larger micron filter bag
- Use a pre-press mold
- Apply pressure gradually over time
- Make sure pressure knob is snug (don't overtighten, that won't help)
- Press length may need to be lengthened
What should I set my temperature to?
- Bubble Hash/Dry Sift - 170 degrees F. Increase 5 degree increments until desired appearance and consistency is reached.
- Flower - 180 degrees do not exceed 225 degrees
*Don’t set your temperature above 225 degrees.
What is the maximum temperature that Rosin Tech Products rosin bags can endure?
We always recommend lower temperatures when pressing and would caution against exceeding 230°F (110°C).
Can your rosin bags be used multiple times or are they one-use only?
While you can only fill each bag one time, you can use the same bag for a second press with the same material.
Do your rosin bags work with any rosin press or only Rosin Tech Products brand rosin presses?
While our rosin bags are designed to be compatible with any rosin press, regardless of brand, they are specifically designed for pressing rosin and shouldn’t be used for any purposes beyond this function. We’ve designed our filter bags longer and thinner than most other bags on the market to allow your oil to escape as quickly and efficiently as possible. These filter bags are also supported by ultrasonic sealing to reduce the chance of blowouts and wasted product.
What type of paper is used for Rosin Tech Products parchment paper?
We use our own proprietary FDA and kosher-compliant parchment paper.
